Left Nursing 30 yrs. ago to raise kids & take care of aging parents. License is inactive. Thinking of going back but need to spend about 4-5 months and $2,500 on remedial course . Wondering if it’s worth it in terms of pay and if will be hired.

Hospitals are in critical need, now would be the time to re-enter..... keep striving & go strong....be mindful that 4-5 mos maybe competing w/ new graduates but still doable.... suggest contacting a local hospitals HR Nurse Recruiter & tell them your situation & ask what it would take for them to look at you as a potential canidate. I would also contact your state Nursing Board if haven’t already , for requirements of licensing.

If you ask around ,you even will be able to get reimbursement for money you spent. Nurses burned out and hospitals are desperate!

I would also add that each time you need to renew your Nursing License now, there are a certain number of CEU's required to be able to renew. CEU's are Continuing Education Units I believe they are defined as. You will take a certain number of credits between each renewal. You can pay for them, or looking around you can find free educational units.

You will very definitely get hired! Don't know what kind of nursing you've done but you can easily make up that tuition in 1 week on a travel contract. And depending on where you're located there might be a lot left over!! Go for it, it's liberating!!

I believe that if you believe in yourself and trust your own judgment to re-enter the nursing force you are getting in the right time. Good luck!
