I'm searching for a job as an RN and I am very discouraged. I have 3 years in psych, 2 years in ER, and approaching 1 year doing acute dialysis. Is anyone else having a hard time finding fulfilling work?

I have been feeling like most nursing jobs out there are more stress than I want in my life. I've been a nurse for 20 years. Have you tried specialty infusion? With your IV skills it would be easy. Its infusing autoimmune IV therapies (Remicade, Entyvio, IVIg, Orencia, etc) via PIVs. There aren't a lot of jobs but if you find one, you often have one on one time with patients often in their home which I loved!

I've also been considering using my license in an alternative way. I saw something about nurse coaching on fb recently but don't know how realistic it is; to actually make money and I would need some mentoring in having my own business. I am very interested in psychosocial aspects of care and mixing my faith in Jesus and the leadings of the Holy Spirit into my profession. Not sure how to combine it all but nothing is impossible with God.

I encourage you to keep seeking! You have lots of experience and are gifted; I pray you find something fulfilling.

Yes and as a result it has been quite the disappointment and turn off from the whole Job search cycle for me. After reaching my breaking point, I partnered with an amazing mentor who has a proven track record of success and decided to change gears a little bit. I launched my own agency with a focus on improving Health and Wealth — two things I am passionate about! I get to work remotely which is very important to me, I use my Healthcare background, I get to help many clients requesting my services, I get to teach/coach others like me desiring a change and I feel very fulfilled especially because I am not dependent on a hospital or another company. I control what I do and when I do it. Sometimes we need a change to find what best fits where we are currently. I’d say embrace the positives of where you’re at now and be open to new opportunities because you never know what may arise. I wish you all the best!

Why don't you try Home Health. With your experience, you can easily get a job.I'm a retired Director of Patient Care Services and I can assure you a lot of Home Health agencies will hire you.The only thing is you will be driving a lot.But one of the advantages: Flexibility in your schedule.

I have almost 20 years experience as a nurse, done many things but pretty much stayed in the same discipline the whole time. I started out as a cardiac nurse , then became the educator after completing my MSN , then ran an LTAC unit , after that started teaching didactic and clinical at a community college and then a University. Now I am back to regular floor nursing on a transplant unit.
Being an RN is full filling, you have not found your niche however!
Look back at when you were in Nursing School, your clinicals, which area did you like to practice the most in, what was the main reason for you to become a nurse?

I wish you the best to find your "niche" in nursing, there are so many opportunities.
Dialysis is a growing area. Also , if you are not against going back to school, you can always try to go the ARNP route, that is what my next goal is. More independence , set your own hours, and
as I always love to say " The more knowledge you have as a nurse, the more power you have"
