How do I find a job in the ER as a new grad? I graduate this December and would really love to be in the ER but seems like all the jobs are asking for experience in this speciality.
Let them know that a Rome was built in a day. However, somebody has to be trained in that role if they want to continue to ask for experience without being ready to help train the young ones, well I am so sorry for the future they are creating for theirself
Many hospitals have what is called a Nurse Residency program. These programs are becoming more popular for new nurses. University of Rochester Medical Center’s Strong Memorial Hospital has one for the Emergency department. They are a level one trauma center and would be a great place to go if that is where your interest is.
There are ER ‘s out there that do new grad residency programs go to the hospital website look at careers or call and speak to HR
Some places may hire to train you. If COVID continues to slow down, it’s possible. But many hospitals are still overwhelmed and may not have time. Look for an ER in a smaller hospital for exposure.
Go talk to the hospitals and see if they offer new grad residency programs I see them all the time.
Look for new grad residency programs. The December graduation is tough and isn’t typically when they start programs like that. I’d reach out to hospitals around you and see if they offer new grad residency programs and when they typically start.
Yes, I agree a nurse residency program for ED nurses is a good way to go about applying for a position.
I’m in PA and there are a lot of hospitals that hire right into the ER.
Getting jobs in the ER as a new grad is generally easier if you’ve worked in that ER as a tech of some sort. If you have not chosen that route, then you can look for Residency Programs (be advised they are sometimes competitive depending on where you live) for the area you’d like to make your specialty, complete residency and be on your own. Most important thing during your search is to be patient and continue to apply! When you land an interview, express that you are a fast learner, highly adaptable and capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment. Best of luck!
Try Marshfield Hospital in Eau Claire, WI. They are taking new grads for ER positions. Good Luck!
Most hospitals will have an RN intern or residency program that you will need to apply for a few months in advance. Just go to the hospitals site and look up careers/job search or contact their HR
