I want to find a job in plastic surgery. Please help me find a way to get into that area.
Learn to scrub in the OR first. Once you have enough experience go get your RNFA. Take your time learning to close. Most surgeons also need someone who is great with people in post-op. It is very overlooked as a skill to be both a great nurse and compassionate. It is easier for some to be compassionate when care is given to someone who is sick versus someone who needs care in the post op area for procedures that were elective. Usually patients want to keep their procedure private but still need someone to talk to and tell them they will be okay.
Hi, try to find outpatient plastic surgery centers. I currently work in one for the past 11 years. It has opened the door for many opportunities. I scrub, pre & post op and circulate. I work 3 days in the outpatient center and I also keep one day in the hospital operating room just so I continue to do general surgery. Good Luck!
Depends on experience. Plastics is just like any other specialty in a surgical unit. During the interview process be sure to be transparent with your goals, then when you are working in the OR be relentless about your desire to work in said specialty. There is no magic formula other than GREAT attitude, hard work, and time in the saddle.
