What kind of experience do I need to be an RN case manager? I'm looking to do something with less or no patient care and regular hours.

March 7th, 2024

I’ve been a remote Behavioral Health RN Case Manager for over 2 years now with a Medicaid MCO company. Prior to this I was Nursing Supervisor at an adolescent residential and acute psych facility for 6 years. & then before that only 8 months of med/surge right after I graduated.

As long as you have some solid experience in the specialty you’ll be working in and properly prepare yourself for the interview, you should be alright.

Being a Case Manager may not be direct patient care, but it’s no different than starting a new job in any other nursing specialty you’re not experienced in. You still go through orientation & shadowing. You’re still going to learn on the job as you go.

So I say just go ahead & apply! You never open new doors if you don’t try!
