HOW CAN I LEARN TO PRONOUN MEDICAL TERMS/THE NAMES OF MEDICATION PERFECTLY AS A NON-NATIVE SPEAKER?

October 10th, 2023

Get a mentor (colleague with some experience in nursing)who is familiar with the pronunciations of medications and medical terms, and make a list of the words most important to you. Meet regularly with your mentor, and write the phonetic pronunciations beside each term/medicine on your list, capitalizing the syllable that gets the emphasis, for examples: Lanoxin - Lan-OX-in; Or Methcillin Resistant staph aureus: Meth-SILL-in re-ZIS-tant staff AWE-re-us, or Craniotomy: Krane-ee-OTT-toh mee. I used to suggest my non-native English speaking nursing students do this and it helped them. Hope this helps you, too.
