Can you become a nurse without going to a university?

Yes, you can become an Licensed Vocational Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurse by going to a Community College for one year and Registered Nurse for 2 years at a Community College. You do have to have a GED or high school graduation certificate to qualify for admission into these Community Colleges.

It depends on what you're goal is. There are different categories for nurses. Assistant nurses are usually trained in the hospital where they are working. Enrolled nurses hve to attend a formal college or accredit nursing training school. Some Registered nurses are either degree qualified, yep, university. Diploma nurses in my country, attend a formal educational institution, accredited but write University exams.
