What are some ethical dilemmas you've faced at work?

May 7th, 2023

I received a job offer where it would be a desk nurse Quality job. I passed my background check then did the drug screen. I told the company I had been taking prescription pain medication for the past 9 years for torn tendons I have and extensive arthritis I have. I was upfront, told them exactly the 2 medications I was taking and to expect it to show up. They called me and told me I was taking "....", I told them, "NO, I DO NOT TAKE THAT DRUG, I CAN'T, I AM ALLERGIC TO IT". I offered to get note from my prescribing doctor and gave all documents from my pharmacy. They drug tested me twice more with a "interference" result. They rescinded my job offer. Told me "We gave your job to somebody else that could start sooner and more experienced". I asked, why? They said "We have nothing else to tell you". I checked about 2 weeks later, that job is still posted. Also, it was posted 3 days after my 1st drug screen. The physicians reading the tests in Indiana called me and told me "We are sorry, you are clear to go to work and we are recording a clean negative". I asked what happened and they said, "It was an error in the test of the entity you were going to work for". I was ghosted by the entity and that was that. I have 18 years of nursing experience. 15 ER, 2yr Public School, 6 months quality. I have been unemployed for 5 months, drawing unemployment and after 517 applications in the Fort Worth Dallas area, that was my ONLY job interview and offer. I'm 51 years old who always made at least $89,000 a year, now I'm borrowing money from my Mother to make my bills. I have my Bachelors and near finishing my Masters Degree.
To all nurses out there...I am about to file for Disability. Yes, Disability. Why you ask?
Well, I do have medical problems that prevent me from picking up, pushing, etc...or running. I still have a brain, I am good at working a sit down job that could benefit someone. But my 8 hour a day job is filling oup applications. Texas Workforce can't even help me. Would any of you out there keep looking? Or Would you just throw in the towel? I never ever thought I would ever be in this situation. It is devastating and sad. My doctor said "You have worked yourself to death", Worn yourself out". Any advice would be wonderful to hear from anyone??
