What are some non-pharmacologic pain management methods you commonly use?
I suffer with chronic pain related to osteoarthritis. Some of the non-pharmacologic pain management methods I use are stretching, walking, lifting light weights and doing isometric exercises. I also see a chiropractor about once a month. Diet is also important, I eat a plant based diet and avoid processed foods. I bought a theragun which helped when my knee went out.
Many times it's something simple like repositioning, ambulating, ice or heat.
1) behavior modifications
2) hypnosis
3) explanation of The problem
4) reduction of noise and visual stimuli
5)decreasing anxiety
6) positioning
7) involvement of the patient in in pain relief
Guided imagery, aromatherapy, pet therapy, massage, distraction - such as story telling, or talking about positive life experiences, herbal teas (if able to take PO), essential oils
Ice packs, heat packs, pillows, lights dimmed or off, decrease stimuli , close doors, we had lavender sniffers, recliners, music
Guided imagery, heat or cold packs.
Plasma Rich Platelets (PRP) had it done in my knee and neck and made a HUGE difference. I tried everything before hand PT, Chiropractor, Acupuncture, etc. PRP actually heals the injury because it uses our own platelets that have growth factors it to replicate new cells to heal repair the injured area. Unfortunately, insurance doesn’t pay for it but it well worth the investment.
For my patients and myself, distraction works well too
how 'chalked pills' can cause a toxicity allergy to scents of facial features, offering eprescribed gummy vitamins supplements non sugary flavour but artifical flavour zero carbs can give you a mood inducements of blood sugar flows and candy tablets in it being chewable hard gummys can make it easier to chew for needing supplements without having an iv supplements
Stretching, yoga, changes in diet, decrease stress.
Some nonpharmacologic pain management may be listening to patient, aromatherapy, massage, and music I commonly use. Some people just need a hug.
Group singing.
Hot packs, cold packs, tea, a warm shower… stretching, ambulating…
Hot or cold therapy , stretching , and rest. Depending on the cause and location of pain . If pain is not relieved ask see md and if offered PT CAN BE AMAZING.
TENS unit for spasms: ice/ heat; yoga to stretch out the area, warm bath with Epsom salt. Walking; OTC diclofenac ointment.
