Has anyone switched over from bedside to administration? Any advice you could give me? I'm an RN in an MHA program

It’s never a bad thing to go into leadership. Once in that position, stay close to your people and keep your finger in the pulse of those you are leading. That is how they will work well for you and appreciate you.

I was a bedside nurse and transitioned to management for 7 years. My advice to you would be to have a mentor.

Went from bedside to Director of telemetry unit, to Admin Director over med surg directors, iv therapy, nursing sup, float pool, oncology Director got a masters in nursing admin. Meeting with directors monthly and being available to them 24/7. Loved job.

I came into nursing post-military.

What I’ve seen so many times, the best bedside nurse gets promoted to leadership. They want to take on the world but fail miserably. They’re great nurses but they lacks leadership training/ experience.

Learn how to lead before you become a leader. There’s a vast difference between a leader and a manager. Be a leader.
