RN here with 5 years experience, about 1.5 years on the floor and 3.5 years experience in the operating room. Was interested in transitioning to a more administrative role. Can anyone tell me the best career path?

Does your facility have any coordinator or shift/staff leader positions? They’re kind of a step up from charge but not 100% management. Also do you already do charge? Most admin roles prefer or require charge experience at least. That said if you think admin fits your skills/personality advocate for yourself during the interview. I do recommend getting your CNOR if you don’t already, or take an online certificate class to set yourself apart. It shows you’re serious about continuing education and willing to put the time in outside work; I know management positions are basically 24/7.

Education, bed board/patient placement, or positions with a specific service line (helping take pt calls, follow ups, scheduling, knowing their preferences ect.) is an option as well. Hope that helps!
