Currently looking for outpatient RN clinic jobs as a new graduate nurse in Arizona. Please reach out with any insight / advice, I have learned bedside nursing is not the right fit for me. Thank you!

I'm currently working in outpatient. I spent time in med-surg as a new grad and I'm honestly only able to do outpatient because of that experience. Many nurses do not want to do bedside nursing, but it makes it difficult to do other nursing jobs without that foundation. I'm constantly doing phone triage and walk in triage, and it's difficult when you can't actually see the patient, because you have to rely on your experience. When a Dr asks a nurse to triage a pt for something, he or she is relying on you to tell them if the pt needs to go to the er instead. Over the phone, you can't listen to lung sounds, so you must rely on things you have seen in patient care. We use a protocol book, but the patients do not always describe things well. If you ask the pt if they're wheezing and they don't know what that means they might say no. If the patient says they hear some howling sound when their child breathes, you should be able to determine where they need to go because a book won't tell you everything. I hope you're able to find a place that suits your needs.
