I’ve worked few months in med-surg(new grad travel assignment but I felt incompetent, so I left) then I worked in aesthetics for a year, but I want to go back to hospital yet I don’t have experience and I’m not considered a new grad anymore, help
Travel and agency jobs are not a good fit for new grads. Take a staff job at a hospital near you. You make less money, but if you choose a place that wants quality nurses, they will be able and willing to invest in your education and professional development. You will make less money, but you’ll become a better nurse. Temporary staff that is making lots of money is expected to be independent and able to pick up the slack.
Look for jobs that offer a learning experience and be honest with HR about what your needs are. We are lucky that the nursing profession has many types of career choices from industrial to aesthetics and more.
Some hospitals offer a new grad residency and if you ask and explain your situation they should allow you to go through that program to become a bedside nurse. Hope this helps! Good luck.
In your cover letter express your desire for a position where there is a internship opportunity.
Apply again on a med surge unit as a staff member and always be honest during your interview process. Let them know your skill set and your expectations. This would allow them to place you with a really good preceptor to help you gain the skills needed to become a competent nurse.
