I’m a RN/BSN with almost 15 years experience & have just made the leap into an L&D Residency here in ATL at the busiest/highest volume of deliveries in the US. So far it’s been the best decision. Getting paid to learn a new skill to make myself even more marketable is a major win in my book! I had pondered going back to school (AGAIN) for DNP or CNM but decided why get more student loans, more responsibility & about the same pay I can make as a floor nurse (with call pay and incentives) when I can literally get paid by my job to teach me something new! So I say residencies are awesome for BOTH new grads and us older nurses who are constantly learning and looking for new opportunities to evolve!
Absolutely yes. For all new grads.
Nursing residency programs allow time for the new nurse to not only hone clinical skills, it also allows for the socialization of the new nurse into the culture of the unit. Nursing Residency programs work.
Yes! Gives more opportunity for learning!
