I’m a new grad nurse. I’ve only been working for 3 months. I’ve already been placed on delayed start 3 times and never called back in to work that day? Is this very common? How to nurses compensate for the missed pay?

I find it appalling that we go to school for four years, we have to pass a licensing exam, and maintain competencies and certifications, then we are treated like seasonal employees. Forced down staffing, bullying and fighting for shifts between nurses. I’ve been a nurse for 28 years, retirement can’t come soon enough. My aunt always told me Nursing was a thankless job.
Thanklessness is one thing, but being physically pushed by doctors and lied about. This is healthcare in the US. You don’t want to pay a full salary to the people giving the care, making decisions that can determine the future health of a patient (not to be dramatic, but we do make life and death decisions). I felt more respected when I worked at an amusement park. At least then I signed up for seasonal employment, sans 4 year degree!
