As a cardiac surgery ICU-step-down nurse for several years, the nurse-patient ratio, allowed me to implement more effective, efficient and personal patient care. ICU nurses are expected to demonstrate a high level of critical thinking, some very comprehensive and technical skills, multitasking and good teamwork that are advantageous to lifesaving measures. It is usually a blessing and joyous moment for ICU nurses when their patients recover and can be discharged to home or rehab. Ena-L, RN, M.Ed
