Has anyone stepped away from ICU for a couple of years and gone back? I’ve been away from the ICU for a little over 1.5 years and am missing it. I don’t think I want to do full time again but am worried about doing prn after being away for a while.

I retired from my ICU staff position going on 22 months. Don't think I can go back to that, especially doing it only per diem. So much has changed, and the majority of the staff members are young; everything is fast and rushed- I get it- but the nursing I once knew does not exist anymore, and it saddens me. Poor quality of patient interaction (virtually little to none) because time is money. So much to be responsible for, and there is no accounting for the time it may take to actually spend time with a needy patient or family. I hope I don't end up as a patient anytime soon. Good luck to you.
