Are nurses ever rude to students shadowing them? How would you deal with that as a nursing student?
As a preceptor, I would never be rude to a nursing student shadowing me. Anyone who is in a teaching position has a duty to be courteous and respectful of the student.
Yes horrible advice given here. Wait until you get out of school and in the profession. You should never suck up disrespect. Bullying is a big problem in nursing along with racism. You should never accept it. Unfortunately the managers seem to allow it. They have zero tolerance policies for abuse but don’t uphold it because they are too concerned about staffing. HR tends to always support managers. When I complained to my manager and HR about a nurse bullying me and they did nothing, They cared more about the bully staying because he worked there longer. There were other complaints about him. When nothing is done, the bully never learns. I made the decision to just leave that toxic environment. Not every environment is toxic but unfortunately many are. See my dignity and respect are worth more than any job and I am a stronger person for it. Don’t suck up abuse, inform and move on if nothing is done about it. Your mental health and well-being are more important than a job. Also you are setting precedence believe it or not. When you stand up for yourself, you are teaching people how you want to be treated. If facilities keep losing all their nurses over bad behavior, how do you think they even came up with these zero tolerance policies. Some places do uphold them because of staff loss and law suits. Remember there is the department of justice. Just have your situation well documented. For all you minority nurses out there, you will go through a lot in this profession. There is tons of research out there just how racist it is!!!!!!
Unfortunately, yes! That is because they were treated that early in their career. Nurses eat their young! Until this is stopped you just have to ignore it.
don't be so touchy. You are new. The teacher is hoping you are going to stay instead of leave. Her directions are not being mean, she is being strict . She does not want you to harm any patients and mostly, she wants you to protect yourself and get along with your superiors. Remember, you have entered a profession that is similar to the military. We don't need crybabies.
