Where should a new grad RN work?

November 4th, 2023

I would suggest at least 1 year in med surg. That background will provide a more overview of all types of nursing care.

There are plenty of new grad programs! I’m unsure how the previous answer was helpful in any way. I believe the question is asking about a specific department! It just depends on your personality type. Look for opportunities in your area and don’t give up!

Hi...unfortunately, in the USA, Agencies, Hospitals, or other institutions won't hire you if you have no previous experience. They don't want to spend money given you orientation. They want you to start right away in the unit or specialty you were hired for...
With this regulations, that save money to them, but loose a lot of nurses, and good nurses, including nurses who have been retired for a few years ago with intense experience in their field...This regulation increased the shortage and added to ,in some regions ,like Florida, where the salaries are very low and the working conditions are very poor.
The U.S faces a nursing shortage population due to an aging population and retiring nurses, creating abundant opportunities for nurses nationwide. The need for nurses aligns with all-time-highs in increased demand for healthcare professionals.
My advise for all Health care facilities will be that given the opportunity to new graduates and retired Nuse to be retrained, won cost to much money to them and wont have the hasel of having a poor staffing and decreased a load for nurses in their daily working enviroment.
