Why are quality assurance programs important in nursing?

It also assures we just plain provide good care. System issues, practice issues, patient advocacy, risk issues (to staff and patients), medical staff issues and education are all part of Performance Improvement Departments. Issues are identified and all stakeholders should have a say in reviewing the issue and formulating an improvement plan. Regulatory agencies also must be respected and their standards upheld. I have been doing this for over 20 years, there is never a dull moment and I love my job. I feel my Team has contributed to my hospital providing the very best patient care possible.

Nurses have been trained as process specialists as we learn and hone our skills to assess, plan, do, monitor and act if the patient does not respond to treatment or therapy as expected. QA or Performance Review against a set of criteria or policy, guidelines or regulations helps to confirm the actions performed Ed by a nurse or clinical team conforms to prudent care standards.

Quality assurance programs are important in nursing because it sets measured metrics to see how nurses are doing in all aspects of patient care and with Joint Standards and CDC Standards. It allows us to see where we fall short and do process improvements so we can achieve a95-100% compliance in our metrics (measurements).
