How do you make your resume stand out to employers for an entry-level clinical documentation position? Everyone wants prior experience in the field but my experience has been at bedside in critical care for the last 8 years. Thank you in advance.

This has been a challenging field to get in to, it seems. I've been trying to get in as well. But from what I hear, try taking the ACDIS Apprenticeship certificate program to help you stand out on your resume. You already have the clinical background since you have 8 years of critical care. Try using words like analytical, problem-solving, detail-oriented, able to prioritize, assertiveness, etc. You will need to show strong knowledge of A&P and disease processes. Hope this helps! Good luck!

You participate in an Apprenticeship-style program and get the hands-on experience so you can apply & interview with confidence. They won’t stop asking for prior experience because certain roles like Utilization Management handle aspects that affect their bottom line so it’s crucial to get candidates that have experience. One program you may lookup is UM Mastery For Nurses.

Unless you have a “cheat code”, unfortunately you will keep waiting a long time for someone to be willing to take a chance on you. Talent acquisition teams have a lot of people to go through and if you don’t stand out then it’s a waiting game or may never happen. I have been there so I speak from experience. Hope this helps.

Have a great day!🙂
