What are some techniques for managing situations where patients have severe body odor or poor hygiene?

Approach the Nursing staff to assist. I am assuming the patient is not aware. If you are the nurse start with a backrub/scrub...earn the patient's trust and work forward, backward, top to bottom :) Foot soaks are also a pleasant surprise. Once the patient agrees to your help, assist with hygiene and emphasize "you will feel better" I just want to know how I can help. Get the family involved with the slow start.
