What’s the best thank you gift you’ve received from a patient or their family?

January 27th, 2022

Probably the best “gift” I received from patients and/or their families was in Hospice
Nursing. Genuine love, kindness, appreciation and well wishes are showered upon you for caring for someone leaving our Earth.
In any position in your career you need to enjoy what or why you are giving your time & attention.

Thank you as they opened their eyes after being technically dead- that is all the gratitude in the world you should expect. That person will never forget your face

My Pay is thanks enough. Its a job lets not get all overinflated sense of worth…. The Heroes that we were deemed during Covid was soon forgotten when the hospitals ran out of their grants from the government. So make sure u keep that in mind …. Go to work, do your job…. Go home to the people that really matter - your families… they are the gift. Oh and your dogs, them too✊🏻👍🏻

The best gift for me is when see a strugling patient come back healthy just to say hi and see one more time the team that took care of them. (Goosebumps!!)

Ethically you are not supposed to accept gifts of any kind. Pretty sure it is a board question too.

Although I was not allowed to confirm this, my mother-in-law told me that she knew one of my previous patient's daughters who saw a picture of me on her desk at work. She then went on about how much I helped her mother while in rehab and improved her quality of life by making a timing suggestion on medication. It's nice to be reminded that I short interaction have lasting effects.

Hugs and words of love and kindness, thanking me for all the care I gave to their loved one and the time I spent explaining things they didn’t completely understand. It makes me feel good knowing that taking extra time with patients and their families is always greatly appreciated.
