I’ve been a bedside nurse for 11.5 years and looking to possibly go into case management. I was wondering if employers generally hire nurses into the case management role without any experience??
SOME PLACES WILL HIRE AND TRAIN YOU IN CASE MANAGEMENT. COOK COUNTY HAS HIRED AND TRAINED NURSES FOR THE POSITION WHEN THEY WERE IN NEED. I KNOW THAT IF YOU WORK FOR LARGE INSURANCE COMPANIES SUCH AS BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD, SIGNA, AND, ALLINICARE THEY WILL HIRE NURSES WITH NO CASE MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE AND TRAIN YOU. ONCE YOU GET THE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE FROM THEM AT LEAST 1 YEAR THEN IF YOU WANTED TO YOU COULD TRANSITION TO A HOSPITAL SETTING.
In my practice I have seen many employers hire their employees.
Usually, you need to have some experience in Discharge Planning or Case Management. Some employers may hire an inexperienced nurse for that role if they already have experienced Case Managers that could train the new hire. Best suggestion would be to get Certified through CMCC.
