As an ER/CCU nurse , I love it , I AM on my own , check my pt’s labs results , check the Dr’s Orders according to the lab results .Especially pregnancy test results for female patients From 12 years to 55 years old . I used to work nights, I used to do between 12 to 24 cT with and without contrast. Sometimes I have to do emergency IR with the Radiologist on call. I can be busy I used to cover the entire Hospitals from ER to the psyche floors., it expedites pt’s disposition I love being independent , and doing the right things for my patients,
The radiology Dept consists of subspecialty areas CT, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, X-ray, Ultrasound, PET scan, and Interventional Radiology depending on the facility they need an RN in those areas. International Radiology needs an RN with critical care or Trauma experience. Nurses who work in IR monitor patients and administer moderate conscious sedation during procedures (depending on the patient's acuity ) otherwise Anesthesiologist will do it, and also you rotate in PACU. IR consider a new specialty and it becoming a new advanced practice in most health problems like stroke, oncology, vascular, GU, and collaboration with other specialties. If you thrive in a fast pace but structured and challenging Ir is for you. Other areas of radiology are less demanding and only requires 1-2 years of general nursing experience. Look for opportunities to train and or observe all areas then pick the best fit for you.
It is fun and fast paced. Always something different. CT guiuded BX’s are fun😁
Wonderful. Imaging is such a different world. Makes you see the patient differently.
It is good- busy place- the draw back at some places you are on call.
