IR RN will get more than a non-IR RN due to high use of fluoroscopy in IR but still within ALARA limits.
Potentially. However we are required to wear lead aprons, sometimes lead goggles and a dosimeter to measure our exposure. The X-ray tech has a few things they can do with the X-ray machine to decrease it. It is all about time, distance and shielding. I believe CT delivers the most exposure. However at least at my facility we don’t stay in the room when scanning. We go back and forth from the control room so your protected with lead walls.
ARIN or the association of radiology and imaging nursing has some great references.
They monitor ur radiation. I mainly work with CT which has very low exposure and sometimes with XR which is the highest. We always wear lead if in XR.
In some ERs they supply with you with a tradition monitor badge that you turn in quarterly and are provided with a report of radiation exposure. It is recorded under your social so it will travel with you.
I work in radiology not radiation therapy, but you are monitor for how much radiation you are exposed to.
