Find out what they like and put education in terms they can relate to, ie, they like to jump rope and hate it when they fall. Tell them a lot of life is like jumping rope and ask them how they feel when thy can go for 5 mins with out any mistakes? Then relate what you are trying to teach as this could be a great win and they could have that same feeling if they can say set the table for dinner, or separate the wash correctly all is a win but all takes practice!! Then set up goals and rewards and move forward!!!

Always be patient with them. Learn each one as an individual as they are all different and have different needs and skills. Most importantly though, learn how to communicate with them in their own way, things go much smoother if you learn to understand them. I have worked with this population for 16 years now, and it is amazing and difficult at the same time. Good luck

My son is autistic and I've worked around several adults that are as well. Always be patient and pay attention to every detail. Get on their level and let them come to you. They can be very manipulative and sometimes it's hard to tell behavior from autism itself. But they see the world so differently so you can't expect them to just simply understand. It's repetitive teaching and training that helps them the most, stay consistent.

I worked at a school that specialized in individuals with autism. The most important thing to remember is they are people with feelings. Approach them directly but calmly. Speak to them with a calm voice. They are easy to be around if you treat them calmly
