I got my BSN In 2018. Right before my graduation I came home to find my father had a heart attack and died home alone. After 5 years I decided to try to finally join nursing. I did a refresher course. Will on-job training be enough?

Ask specific questions during your interviews such as how long your orientation period will be, does the institution offer mentoring programs for new nurses, and what kinds of general support and continuing education are available. If the idea of hospital nursing is overwhelming, thing about outpatient work. That said, a good refresher course and adequate orientation with a nurse mentor should allow you to enter active nursing and thrive. My condoldences on your father's passing. I was already a nurse in psych but after my own dad died suddenly of heart problems, I chose to honor him by going into CCU/ICU. Best move (besides getting my NP) that I ever made. Your work as an effective and compassionate nurse - no matter where you practice - will honor your father by helping other peoples' family members to do well.
