Interview Question Advice: "What do you feel is the most difficult part of working as a Nurse?"

September 15th, 2021

Hi there! Truly one of the hardest things about being a nurse, especially now, is not being to spend enough time with the patients. Unfortunately with the nursing shortage we tend to have more patients which leads to less time to sit with patients. All of us come from a place of compassion and we often are so busy that we rarely get to sit with patients anymore. That makes the job difficult when you have a patient who hears difficult news, or needs someone to listen to them after being in the hospital for days alone. I’ve overcome that by time managing the best as I can and when I do get free time, I slow down and ensure I talk to each of my patients. Hope this helps!

Personally I find the politics to be the most trying part of this field. Treatments being constructed around formularies & economics rather than what the doctor wants to prescribe or what the patient truly needs.

The passion that once was within you, slowly depreciates over time due to shortage of staffing and becoming overworked, burned out and under appreciate. We have no time to give the proper Quality of Care that is taught to us while we are in training and it contradicts how you perform in the field, no matter how hard you try to stay in compliance.
