Original requirement is 2 call shifts in a 6 week schedule period, but when the scheduler is balancing numbers before finalizing, there can be more. I work night shift, and when we are "on call" they can call us anytime starting at 1700/5pm (to tell us to arrive at the start of shift at 1847) and any time before 0500. We have 1 hour from getting the call to arrive or we get a point, and you also get a point for not answering the phone and not calling back right away. The charge nurses can send the call person home whenever they see appropriate. Since night shift is so short, I have been called in before the start of the shift and stayed the entire 12 hours every call shift since February
