Good morning, I am Carlos, a Chilean nurse with 15 years of experience in emergency and pre-hospital care, I am also studying medicine in the third year, and I would like to know the real possibilities of working in the US.

Hi

it dependes on what you want to work. If it is as a nurse you need to pass the nclex. There is new version of the nclex, i think is starting this year. you may want to look into uworld nclex preparation and maybe a boot camp from Kaplan ( be ready to spend some time and money).

As long as you pass that exam you should be fine.

however, regarding the doctor in medicine thats a long road

you need to take the usmle step 1-3.
1-2 are written exam but 3 is with a person simulating to be your pt. depending on how confident you are taking these 3 exams it may take you a year or longer to prepare for the 3 steps. then you can apply to a matching program for a residency. if you are hoping to practice medicine as a doc then you need to match in a residency program(specialty) and depending on the state where you are do maybe from 2-3 years of residency even if you do not finish. after that you will be able to practice.

you can also look for classes to help you prepare for the medical exam. again is expensive.

plus please keep in mind you are a foreign student and usually the acceptance rate to match into a residency program is lower for foreigners vs students here in the states.

i do not a many foreign doctors but according to them most from india they were preparing for the test while in their country. Plus they are and were at that moment fluent in english.

so in conclusion validating your nursing degree is much faster and cheaper...

good luck
