Has anyone ever worked at a facility where you could not leave the premises for lunch, you had to clock out and also the facility didn’t offer free meals either?

Our telemetry department do not allow nurses to leave the hospital premises for lunch: either eat at the work station or break room. We are experiencing nurse shortages and nobody will cover for us so we have to work through lunch time and eat whenever we can. As for the free meals, our facility doesn’t allow free meals for the staff.

If a facility prohibits you from leaving to eat, they have to pay your for your lunch plus overtime.

I've never worked anywhere they did ANY of these things. That's crazy. They don't owe you lunch, the ability to leave, and yes many times you MUST clock out. Seriously with this question?

Yes, it is true that there are doctors and nurses who do not have to leave the service room to open at lunch, and the company does not provide free meals, for example: During the treatment of all emergencies, during surgical operations, when a woman is giving birth and has reached 6 cm of cervix dilation, even when you're alone and no one else would be in the service.

I do not know of any place that offers free meals. We have to clock out, but can choose to leave the premises. I agree it would seem that if you have to clock out I'm not sure how they can tell you you are not allowed to leave (that is actually why we are told to clock out - the idea is if you are leaving the premises but are clocked in, it's like you are working but not really). Ultimately, bringing in lunch seems to be the most common option.

I work nights in a behavioral medicine unit. We usually do not have enough staff coverage to go to lunch. I eat at my work station. Also, there is not a cafeteria open at night. There is a very high-priced Bistro only open until 8 pm. Our facility does not offer free meals.
