What makes a best hospital in Washington, D.C.

There are many factors that make a hospital great, including good employee benefits and high patient satisfaction scores. Find out more below.

Benefits

High salaries may attract many candidates for a job, especially in D.C., where the average registered nurse salary is 19% higher than what is seen nationally. Many employers also offer competitive benefits, including wellness programs, financial services and discounts to leisure businesses.

Growth opportunity

In addition to good salaries and incentives, the best employers also provide career growth opportunities. If you’re a RN, you’ll probably find support to focus on a nursing specialty, such as a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) or a nurse practitioner.

Employee satisfaction

Employee satisfaction is one of the metrics that helps determine the overall health of a business, including hospitals. Happy workers usually produce more and stay longer in the institution. On top of that, they are less likely to experience job fatigue, burnout and other work-related problems.

High patient satisfaction

Having satisfied patients helps them heal faster and feel better about the general experience in a health facility. Patient satisfaction is also an outcome frequently recognized by many healthcare certification programs, such as the Magnet program.

Other factors that make a top hospital

In addition to the above-listed factors, a health facility’s performance is also affected by other features, such as hospital safety and healthcare technology.

Safety record is critical

Standardized procedures are directly related to patient safety in hospitals. They identify and prevent risks by ensuring resources, such as medications, are utilized properly.

Hospital policies focus on customer services

A customer-centric approach in healthcare includes avoiding unnecessary arguments with patients, being polite, maintaining proper eye contact and remembering patients’ names.

Latest technology and training improve healthcare

In general, technology — like telehealth — solves a variety of problems and improves accessibility and scalability.

Ethics lead the way

Making decisions regarding refusal of care, measures of infection control and other public health topics may raise discussions. But the best hospitals have strong ethical values that guide their professionals.
