How do you stand out from other new grad nurses?

December 26th, 2022

What is your goal in standing out from other new grads? I precept a lot of students that come through doing clinical and the ones that stand out to me are the ones that listen and follow directions, and are always ready to learn. I work contract work, and the last place I worked had the most annoying students I’ve ever encountered. They were rude, would act like they knew everything already, and not help out with anything, instead ask me a million questions they should be able to look up. They would follow me in the med room every though they did not have pharmacology yet and one actually grabbed an insulin vial out of the drawer and sit it, which created more work for me. Personally I think you should focus on your skills the first year to become fast and proficient at your job and learn as much as you can. Nursing isn’t about standing out in a crowd to gain recognition, if that’s what your after you will be sorely disappointed.
