I am a new grad nurse and having a hard time finding jobs without any experience. Any suggestions?

Check for and apply to new grad RN residency programs. Many large hospital systems have this particularly if they are teaching hospitals. It basically means you have longer orientation/training/preceptorship once you are hired (and side projects/research like when you were in school) due to the fact you don’t have any experience. I’m not sure if you have an ASN or BSN but many hospitals prefer BSN, especially if they are going for Magnet status or have Magnet status. Also look for any hospitals that have “hiring events” you can meet with HR departments and talent acquisition type departments - sometimes you can be given a chance without experience if you interview well! Don’t get discouraged. Good luck.

If it’s possible I was told to apply for per diem positions with hospitals. Since many hospitals like to hire within, you’re more likely to get in with a per diem and then transferring to a new position after a certain amount of time. Usually it’s easier to get the unit you want when you’re already in the organization. I use to work for Kaiser and this is how it was.

Long term care or home health are always usually hiring. Some long term care facilities are connected to hospitals so that’s an opportunity to network and gain experience.

Also maybe review your resume. Add keywords in skills or job experience that apply to you. Many of the resumes get scanned by computers before they even reach the hiring managers. YouTube ways to help. Don’t give up I know job searching can be humbling.

What types of jobs are applying for? Any new grad should be able to get a medical surg position. The important thing is get your foot in the door - get some experience - then you can ask for a transfer into the depth you want.
