I actually did, CICU but had done a 3 month long preceptorship there just before that. I did see someone's comment that night shift would be easier and I do believe that is accurate. However, one problem (back then) was that we didn't have Hospitalist or any other MD's at the Hospital during the night other than Internist. It was somewhat like being on your own. We truly worked as a team and always asked each other questions and depended on each other and other ICU nurses mostly during a CODE. ACLS did not exist at the time and I feel were not as prepared in many ways. I have gotten ACLS certified since and also would recommend an EKG course at a good Hospital.
An ICU is much more intense now. I would also try to get CCRN certified. I would get those cerifications and then if you don't get hired start in a PCU first.
If they will train you and provide orientation? Hell yeah! You’re off to a wonderful start- such experience will take you places! Congratulations!!
