I’m starting a new grad residency after almost 2 years of doing community nursing. What preparation do you recommend for returning to acute care nursing???
The residency program is an excellent start. However, the residency program varies from one facility to another one. I was an instructor in the program where I worked. The nurses graded our program with high marks. The residents were protected from been floated to another area. They were paired with experienced nurses on the floor when they worked. In additional, if circumstance occurred that they were floated they were either paired with an experienced nurse on that floor or their preceptor had to be floated also. At least once a month, the residents had to attend a mandatory classes that were taught by experience staff nurse. My expertise was urology. It was a great experience for me. I got an opportunity to bridge the gap between the old and new nurses. The residents and I had an opportunity to learn from each other.
